What is Comedy Estonia?

Comedy Estonia is the group of performers and organizers who host Stand Up comedy around Estonia. They are comedians themselves and come from around the world; however, have a focus on comedy in the Nordic Region. The goals of Comedy Estonia are to grow all forms of live comedy performance in Estonia, specializing in Stand Up and Improv.

While Stand Up Comedy started as an English-language art form, we believe that comedy performed by Estonians for Estonians will be increasingly popular in the coming years. We also believe that Stand Up is a vital art form in a healthy society, as it gives people the chance to express their opinions and entertain others in an unedited and direct manner which TV, radio and print media do not allow. In this view Stand Up becomes not only a hilarious form of entertainment but an important social balance in an evolving culture.

We aim to provide the following sorts of shows

• Estonian and international comedians performing in English
• Encouraging local Estonian-language Stand Up with regular open mic nights where anyone can try
• Multi-day events like the Tartu Comedy Festival showcasing the talent fostered in the regular open mic nights
• Providing entertainment at private functions and company events.

Comedy Estonia is run by the following individuals

Louis Zezeran

Louis is an Australian who started his career as an actor and theatre producer in Sydney. He embarked on a year long back-packing mission across Europe in 2006 with two mates and a old Volvo which turned into a series of jobs and living in progressively more and more obscure places.  After moving to Sweden in 2009 he focused on Stand Up comedy and telling his experiences as a foreigner coming to a country which at first seemed similar but which was actually quite different. He is a key driving force in establishing English language comedy across the Nordics and while he maintains an apartment now in Helsinki, he is better described as a citizen the north and his blog www.zezeran.com details the continuing adventure across Europe.

Eric Seufert

Eric Seufert is in Estonia by way of London, where he is a master’s degree student in economics at University College London. Having performed stand-up for two years in empty bars across Austin, Texas, Eric is no stranger to the barren, haunting silence of the Estonian countryside. Eric also teaches the Tartu Üliõpilasteatri Improv Troupe and has studied long-form improv comedy at the Coldtowne Theater and with the Upright Citizens Brigade theater.
