Andrei Tuch

Andrei is awesome sauce

Andrei Tuch (it’s pronounced “toukh”, you douche) is a native of Estonia, although he can trace his family history to Moses on one side, and a bunch of Viking invaders on the other. He hails from Tallinn’s Russian ghetto, and will require approximately four drinks before he will explain to you exactly why he’s not at all like those pesky Soviet immigrants. After a short-lived but well-enjoyed stint as a child actor, he proceeded to do a number of odd jobs, from selling postcards on the streets of Old Town to being the world’s only automotive journalist without a driver’s license (he had a weekly newspaper column when he was 16).

After finishing high school, Andrei left Estonia’s capital and moved to the academic stronghold of Tartu, to realize his life-long ambition of being a snob. Graduating from university with a BA (Bastard of Arts) degree in English, he found that he was too antisocial to be a teacher, so he became a technical writer, doing utterly incomprehensible (but presumably well-paid) things for software companies. Andrei works out his anger issues on the pages of his blog, antyx.net, which is just about the only place on the Internet where you can read about Estonian politics in English without throwing a grammar textbook at your screen. Andrei has a very sweet hat, and a red sportscar with great big white stripes down the middle. They add fifteen horsepower.

Style of Comedy

Andrei’s comedic sensibilities represent his acute sense of the absurd. With the mindset of a translator, used to explaining the nuances of one culture to another, he observes his own life and his immediate surroundings. Andrei likes nothing better than to stop and stare at something seemingly trivial until he – and everyone within earshot – realizes just how improbably ridiculous it really is. As Comedy Estonia’s only completely native member, he is also completely terrified of becoming his generation’s Jan Uuspõld.
